We are God’s Masterpiece…

Ephesians 2:10a

Have you ever been given information about yourself based on how another person perceives you?  Did it take you by surprise?  Not long ago, one of my daughters relayed a story to me about an acquaintance that began a conversation with her, which quickly turned into a “you need an extreme makeover” talk.  My daughter listened to her politely for a short while, but quickly realized the negative intent, so she calmly said, “Please stop.  I do not want to hear what you have to say, because I do not value your opinion of me.”  That stopped the conversation with a very awkward pause.

Whose opinion of yourself do you value?  The world tells us to identify ourselves by sexual orientation, social standing, religion, occupation and a myriad of other meaningless titles.  But God says we were made in His image, becoming His highest and most admired creation.  The minute we believe in His Son, He begins bragging about us.  Imagine this – the God who created you, has good things to say about you.  He doesn’t sit and ponder the “if only’s” of your life.  He is not irritated by your lack of trust in Him.  He says good things about you to all those hanging out in the heavenly realms.  It takes great courage and faith in the Faithful God, to look the universal accuser in the face and say, “STOP!  I do not want to hear what you have to say, because I do not value your opinion of me!”

Matthew West has written a song, “Hello My Name Is”, which reminds us of the truth of who we are in Christ:

Hello, my name is Regret.

I’m pretty sure we have met.

Every single day of your life I’m the whisper inside,

 That won’t let you forget.

Hello, my name is Defeat.

 I know you recognize me.

Just when you think you can win, I’ll drag you right back down again,

 ‘Til you’ve lost all belief.

These are the voices, these are the lies.

And I have believed them, for the very last time.

Hello, my name is CHILD OF THE ONE TRUE KING!

I’ve been saved, I’ve been changed, and I have been set free.

“Amazing Grace” is the song I sing.

Hello, my name is CHILD OF THE ONE TRUE KING!

How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!

1 John 3:1
