Doesn’t your mind tell you?
- If only I had said it like this instead of that.
- If only I had been more prepared, I thought I was.
- If only I would follow the rules.
- If only I would master the mundane.
- If only I could stop.
- If only I would have gone back to school.
- If only I hadn’t done that when I was young.
- If only I If only I had prayed more.
- If only I had been a Christian as a child.
- If only, if only, if only…
It’s the enemy! Ahhh, after all that I come to the right conclusion again.
And why do we allow that same cycle to happen?
Because we are human? Because we fail? Or is it for other reasons?
I’m a bit of a bottom line sort of person and when I think about my bottom line is that I recognize, for me, when I am full of God and His people – attending church, seeking him in bible study, participating in a bible study, reaching out to fellow Christians and in a small group with my husband, I feel so protected from the enemy! When I am not, I don’t! It is that simple!
We cannot expect things to change in us or unhealthy habits to end if we don’t continue to feed and fuel ourselves appropriately. This always seems to happen to me around this time of year (hence the decision to make this my topic today). I could talk all day about the excuses as to why this occurs… Scripture tells us more about this and this may very well be one of the most notable and quoted scriptures when it comes to change:
“To every [thing there is] a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up [that which is] planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace”.
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
I know with all my depth that I don’t want to feel “if onlys”.
I know that I have not been wrapping myself in God’s sources of protection.
I know that I want to. I know that I need to.
Where is God telling you to change?
What season are you in?
Do you feel the cloak of protection I describe?
What is your plan to change?
