It’s that time of year again! Time to make your New Year’s Resolutions! I know, some of you are already thinking about how you don’t make resolutions anymore. Well, for the record, I don’t believe you. I think many of us do make New Year’s Resolutions, we just don’t want to admit it, you know, just in case we don’t keep them we get to save face. But secretly, there are goals or aspirations we all long for that come with the hope of a new year.

Allow me to get on my soap box just for a moment. Dare to dream! Dare to set those New Year’s Resolutions again! Last time I checked, no one set a resolution that was particularly bad in itself. I’ve never heard of anyone saying “My New Year’s Resolution is to spend more time on the couch watching TV and being lazy!” My guess is, if you are brave enough to admit it, your resolutions are actually good things to work toward, they are desires that are healthy.

Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Have you ever stopped to think that the desires you have (the good and healthy desires) could have been planted in your heart by God Himself? And if He gave you those desires, won’t He give you what you need to achieve them?

So here’s a crazy idea… go ahead and make those New Year’s Resolutions! And make some outrageously crazy and seemingly wacky resolutions to boot! Resolutions that you know good and well you could never complete or accomplish without Divine intervention. And why not be brave enough to tell someone about it! Maybe what we need a little more of in 2013 is a dose of good ol’ fashioned peer support and accountability.

Just to show you I’m serious, I’ll let you in on a few of my outrageous New Year’s Resolutions for 2013. And I’ll be the first to admit – they will never happen without Divine intervention! Whew! Help me Jesus!!

My Top Two 2013 New Year’s Resolutions:

1. Memorize Scripture (the entire book of Colossians to be exact!)

2. Begin research and writing new in-depth Bible Study

There you have it, those are the big ones on my list. Now, what about you??
