Advent Carol for December 10
Written by Lise Caldwell
Angels from the realms of glory,
Wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story,
Now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!
Saints before the altar bending,
Watching long in hope and fear,
Suddenly the Lord, descending,
In His temple shall appear:
Come and worship,
Come and worship,
Worship Christ, the newborn King!
These two verses encompass all of history. The angels who “sang creation’s story, now proclaim Messiah’s birth.” And believers, “watching long in hope and fear,” will one day see “the Lord, descending.” At all of these moments, this carol rightly enjoins us to “worship Christ.” From the creation to the incarnation to the restoration of all things, the right response is worship.
